Applications

Profab Machine machines stainless steel rod ends, ball joints and spherical bearings for automotive, marine, food and industrial equipment builders. Every joint starts from your drawing or sample, in 304, 316L or 17-4PH, with threads from M5 to M48. Since 2005, we have supplied linkages for seeders, filling lines, yachts, hydraulic cylinders and position sensors. Our joints run where ordinary steel fails, in salt spray, hot CIP washdown, fertilizer dust and exhaust heat. You get a joint rated for the environment it actually works in, machined to your spec, at factory-direct pricing.

Selecting Marine-Grade Rod Ends for Saltwater Actuation Systems

marine actuators

Profab Machine supplies the rod ends on marine actuators, from trim tabs to radar masts. These joints hold trim and steering response through splash, salt and rough water.

Minute Trim Steps That Must Land Exactly

A trim tab actuator moves the tab plate in minute steps to level the boat at speed. Rod ends sit at the pivot between the actuator and the plate, and every step has to land exactly or the boat porpoises. Hatch and portlight actuators hinge on rod ends at both mounting points, so the hatch sweeps its arc without fighting the actuator. In the splash zone, grease washes out within days and salt crystallizes on every surface.

  • Rod ends at trim tab actuators — dry PTFE liner joints hold minute adjustments tight with no regrease, even as salt crystallizes around them.
  • Rod ends at hatch and portlight actuators — both mounting points pivot through the hatch arc. No lube means no stains on deck.

Hatches, Outboard Tilt and Radar Masts

  • Steering and outboard tilt — 17-4PH joints transmit engine and rudder forces under vibration without developing slop.
  • Radar masts and satellite domes — joints let actuators work against vessel flexing and wind loads at cruising speed.

Salt Crystallizes and Galvanic Pairs Form

  • Lubrication options — dry PTFE liner joints in the splash zone. Greasable joints only where the crew services them on schedule.
  • Corrosion resistance — 316L housing as standard. Spray above the waterline is its territory. Submersion or stagnant seawater asks for a material review.
  • Stainless throughout — housing, ball and shank all in stainless. In an aluminum mount, isolate the two metals to break the galvanic pair.

Common type

Rod ends for marine actuation: JMX / JFX series for trim tabs and hatches, XM / XF series in 17-4PH for steering and outboard tilt. Sizes M61.0 to M242.0 are the usual range.

Application

Marine actuation: trim tab and interceptor control, hatch and portlight actuation, steering and outboard tilt systems, radar mast and satellite dome deployment, etc.
