Every joint starts from your drawing or sample, in 304, 316L or 17-4PH, with threads from M5 to M48. Our joints run where ordinary steel fails, in salt spray, hot CIP washdown, fertilizer dust and exhaust heat. Profab Machine supplies the rod ends that connect steering rams, platform actuators and engine controls on yachts. These joints stay free in salt spray, so nothing seizes mid season.

A Steering Ram That Swings With the Rudder

A yacht steering ram pushes the rudder stock through a rod end, and the joint must swing with the rudder arc while the hull flexes under load. Salt spray lands on the joint every day at sea. Below the stern, swim platform and gangway actuators hinge on rod ends at both mounting points, lifting the platform through its arc. A joint that seizes there turns a platform into a repair job, and a steering joint with play feeds straight into the helm.

  • Rod ends at the steering and rudder linkage — 17-4PH joints hold zero play, so every wheel movement reaches the rudder.
  • Rod ends at platform and gangway actuators — grease washes out in splash zones within days. Dry PTFE liner joints end the regrease cycle and keep the teak clean.

Swim Platforms, Gangways and Rigging

  • Rigging and sail control — joints at vang, backstay and boom points give multi-axis movement without the friction of shackles.
  • Throttle and shift linkages — zero play joints in the engine room hold adjustment in heat and humidity, so engine response stays exact.

Salt Spray and Galvanic Corrosion

  • Lubrication options — dry PTFE liner joints above the waterline. Greasable joints only where the crew can service them on a schedule.
  • Corrosion resistance — 316L housing as standard. Above the waterline it handles salt spray. Submersion or stagnant seawater asks for a material review.
  • Stainless throughout — housing, ball and shank all in stainless. No rust streaks bleeding onto sailcloth or gelcoat. Stainless construction prevents rust. On aluminum brackets, use Delrin/PTFE isolation washers to break the galvanic pair and block pitting.
