Angular Swing on the End of a Piston Rod
A hydraulic cylinder pushes a load through a piston rod, and the rod end threads onto that rod as the pivot. As the cylinder extends, the mount swings through an angle, and the spherical joint takes that swing while the force stays in line. Misalignment at this point is the leading cause of rod bending and seal failure. The same joints carry steering rams and press clamps, where the full force runs through a smaller package.
- Rod ends at the pivot and clevis mounts — unlined metal to metal joints carry full cylinder force. Same race material allows higher static stress than PTFE lined, and inch threads match standard cylinder hardware.
- Rod ends at steering linkages — 17-4PH joints hold zero play, so the ram moves the wheels or rudder exactly.
Presses, Clamps and Waste Handling Arms
- Press and clamp alignment — the joints align themselves and compensate for frame deviation, so force lands even across the workpiece.
- Waste handling arms — grit and slurry hit these joints daily. Grease seals the race and flushes the grit, and high misalignment joints cover the swing.
High Tonnage Finds Weak Joints Fast
- Lubrication options — greasable joints for the high load points, dry PTFE liners where maintenance access is poor.
- Corrosion resistance — 304 housing as standard. 316L for seawater and road salt. 17-4PH H900 reaches about 1310 MPa tensile for steering and articulation.
- Stainless throughout — housing, ball and shank all in stainless. No rust seizing under high tonnage pressure.
