Stainless Steel Grades We Machine

Pick the grade for the environment the part works in, then confirm it against the drawing.

GradeMinimum yield strengthPitting resistance (PREN, typical)Typical use
304205 MPa18 to 20Dry and fresh-water parts
316L170 MPa24 to 26Marine, washdown, and welded parts

Values are typical minimums for annealed plate and for 17-4PH in the H1025 condition, given for comparison.

Heat treatment for 17-4PH is available on request. We agree the condition with you before machining.

05 / Surface finishing

Finishing Services We Offer

Name the finish when you send the drawing. We price it together with the machining.

Passivation

Passivation after machining removes free iron left on the surface by cutting tools.

We offer / Machined parts

Electropolishing

Electropolishing smooths the surface of a machined part, including small features and edges.

Electropolishing Services →We offer / Smooth surface

Powder Coating

Powder coating adds a colored layer where a part needs one.

Powder Coating →On request / Color

Not Sure Which Finish?

Tell us where the part works and how it should look. We suggest a finish when we quote.

Ask with your quote

A finish adds or removes a little material, so state it on the drawing before we quote.

06 / Tolerances and checks

Tolerances and Checks

Tell us which dimensions matter. We plan the setup around them.

  • ±0.01 mm typicalAbout ±0.0004 in, on turned and milled features.
  • Threads and fitsThreads, bores, and pin fits are cut to your callout.
  • GrindingA ground finish is used where a diameter or face needs a tighter size.
  • Critical dimensionsThe dimensions you flag on the drawing are checked first.
  • Before packingParts are gauge-checked against the drawing before they are packed.

What a feature can hold depends on its size, its shape, and the grade.

08 / Why Profab

Why Buyers Order From Profab

01

Direct From the Manufacturer

We CNC machine your parts ourselves at our factory in Fenghua, Ningbo. Questions about a drawing go straight to the people who cut the metal.

  • Stainless steel since 2005
  • ISO 9001 certified quality system
  • Direct contact with the factory
02

Built Around Your Drawing

Most orders start from a drawing. A sample or a worn part works too, because we measure it and quote a copy.

  • Drawing, sample, or worn part
  • One drawing quoted in 304 and 316L
  • Grade agreed before machining
03

Small Runs and Mixed Orders

There is no hard minimum. Prototype runs typically start around 100 pieces. Turned pins, milled brackets, and bent covers for one assembly can share one quote.

  • No hard minimum
  • Several products on one quote
  • Tiered pricing on larger orders
09 / How to order

Six Steps From Drawing to Delivery

STEP 01

Send Your Drawing

Send the drawing file, a sample, or a worn part. Add the grade, finish, quantity, and critical tolerances.

STEP 02

Review and Quote

Engineering reviews the part for manufacturability and replies with a quotation. Prices can be shown at several quantity tiers.

STEP 03

Confirm the Details

Before sampling, we confirm the drawing revision, grade, finish, and quantity with you.

STEP 04

Approve the Samples

Samples are made for you to check against your drawing before the full run starts.

STEP 05

Production and Delivery

The full batch follows the approved sample. Finished parts ship by sea, air, or express courier.

STEP 06

Reorders

Repeat orders are quoted against the approved drawing. Tell us if anything has changed since the last run.

10 / FAQ

CNC Machining FAQ

Short answers to the first engineering and purchasing questions.

Which stainless steel grades do you machine?

We supply 304, 316L, and 17-4PH regularly. Other stainless grades, such as duplex 2507, are available on request.

What tolerance can you hold?

Turned and milled features are typically held to ±0.01 mm (about ±0.0004 in). The figure depends on the feature, the part size, and the grade. Mark the critical dimensions on your drawing.

Do you offer 5-axis machining?

Yes, 5-axis machining is available on request when a part needs it. Whether your part needs it depends on the drawing.

Which finishes and secondary processes can you add?

We offer passivation, electropolishing, and TIG and MIG welding. Mirror polishing, sandblasting, powder coating, heat treatment, and laser cutting are available on request. Each one is quoted together with the machining.

What is your minimum order quantity?

Quantities vary by product, with no hard minimum. Prototype runs typically start around 100 pieces.

Can you make a part from a sample without a drawing?

Yes. We measure the sample and quote a copy. Tell us the grade you want to use.

How do I choose between turning, milling, and sheet metal?

Round parts on one axis, such as pins, shafts, and spacers, are turned. Blocks, plates, and multi-face parts are milled. Flat parts bent from sheet go to sheet metal. When a part needs two routes, the drawing sets the order.
