Stainless Steel Cartridge Wheel Bearings
A stainless steel cartridge wheel bearing is a standard radial bearing ordered by bore, outside diameter, and width. It replaces rusted wheel bearings in wheels, rollers, and hubs.
Profab Machine makes stainless steel wheel bearings and wheel-end components for marine, food, medical, and outdoor equipment, where a carbon steel bearing would rust. Send a bearing number, a drawing, or a sample, and we will quote the ring material, sealing, and fit.

A stainless steel wheel bearing is a rolling bearing whose rings and rolling elements are stainless steel, so it keeps turning where wash water, salt, or chemicals would rust a standard bearing. It carries the radial and axial load of a wheel or roller and keeps friction low.
Profab Machine makes stainless steel wheel bearing rings in 316, 304, or 17-4PH. 440C and hybrid stainless rings with ceramic balls are available on request. We make custom wheel bearing rings, sleeves, and wheel-end parts to your drawing. We check the bore, outside diameter, and width against it.
The right stainless steel wheel bearing depends on the wheel and the housing, so choose the family first and then the ring material and seal.
A stainless steel cartridge wheel bearing is a standard radial bearing ordered by bore, outside diameter, and width. It replaces rusted wheel bearings in wheels, rollers, and hubs.
A stainless steel insert wheel bearing sits in a housing or wheel and locks to the shaft with a collar or set screw. It supports conveyor rollers and wheels.
A stainless steel caster wheel bearing runs on an axle sleeve and spacer inside casters, trolleys, and guide wheels.
A stainless steel tapered roller wheel bearing set is a separable cup and cone pair for trailer and heavy wheels. It comes with the seal and grease your fit needs.
A hybrid stainless steel wheel bearing pairs stainless rings with ceramic balls for wet service and long life. It is available on request, with the cage, seal, and grease named separately.
We machine stainless steel wheel bearing rings, sleeves, hubs, spacers, and flanges to your drawing or sample.
440C is the usual hardened stainless for wheel bearing rings and balls. It keeps its hardness where load and wear matter. Its corrosion resistance is good but below 316, so match it to the cleaning method. It is available on request.
316L resists chlorides, so it suits marine and washdown stainless steel wheel bearing housings, sleeves, and slow, light-load rings. It is soft, so it is not a drop-in match for a hardened bearing race.
304 suits stainless steel wheel bearing spacers, covers, and wheel parts in indoor and wet but chloride-free service, where corrosion matters more than load.
17-4PH reaches about 1,310 MPa tensile strength in H900 condition. We use it for custom wheel bearing rings and shafts where strength drives the design, available on request in the condition you specify.
Electropolishing, passivation, and other finishes are available when a part needs them.
Profab Machine machines stainless steel wheel bearing rings and wheel-end parts on CNC equipment. Heat treatment is available when a hardened ring needs it. Stainless steel wheel bearings suit wet, corrosive, and clean-area service where a carbon steel bearing would rust.
Stainless steel wheel bearings in boat trailer hubs and deck equipment wheels resist rust where salt water destroys plain steel bearings. Choose 316L or 440C with a good seal.
Stainless steel wheel bearings in hospital cart casters withstand chemical washdown and sterilization. Tell us the cleaning method so we can match the ring material and grease.
Stainless steel wheel bearings in trailer hub wheel ends resist road salt. For vehicle hub units, send the OE number or a sample, and we review fit, seal, and load before quoting.
Stainless steel wheel bearings in food processing conveyor rollers and guide wheels keep water out with a sealed design. This extends the service interval on washdown lines.
Work through these points before you request a quote, and send what you know.
| Factor | What to Confirm | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Wheel bearing family | Cartridge, insert, tapered roller, hub, or custom ring | The families are not interchangeable. |
| Wheel bearing size | Bore, outside diameter, and width, or the bearing number | The three dimensions identify a standard wheel bearing. |
| Ring and ball material | 440C, 316L, 304, 17-4PH, or hybrid ceramic | Hardness, corrosion, and load differ by grade. |
| Wheel bearing seal and grease | Open, shielded, or sealed, and the grease | Water, dust, and temperature decide the seal and the lubricant. |
| Wheel bearing fit | Shaft and housing tolerance, and any spacer | A wrong fit shortens life more than a wrong grade. |
| Wheel bearing load and speed | Radial and axial load, speed, and duty cycle | Rating and life depend on them. |
| Wheel bearing environment | Washdown, salt, chemicals, temperature, and cleaning method | The environment drives the material and seal. |
We CNC machine your parts ourselves, so you deal directly with the factory. Tiered pricing is available on larger orders.
Send a CAD file, a sample, or a drawing with tolerances, and our engineers will review the fit, the material, and the seal before cutting metal. Samples are typically ready in about 20 days.
Pricing is tiered by order quantity, so the unit price falls as the quantity rises. We are glad to talk through terms for long-term partnerships.

440C is the usual choice for a wheel bearing ring that must stay hard under load. 316L suits wet or marine service where load is light. 304 fits wet but chloride-free use. 17-4PH is for custom parts that need high strength. Tell us the load, the speed, and the cleaning method, and we will recommend one.
A hardened stainless ring such as 440C is close to a standard bearing ring, but its rating is lower. 316 and 304 are much softer. Load and life depend on the exact wheel bearing and the fit, so send the bearing number or the load for a review.
An open wheel bearing has no cover. A shielded one has a metal cover that keeps out large particles. A sealed one has a contact or non-contact seal that keeps out water. For washdown service, choose sealed.
Automotive hub units are ordered by vehicle and OE number and include flanges, studs, and sensors, so we review each one against the part, not against stainless grade alone. For vehicles, send the model, the OE number, or a sample.
Send the bearing number, a drawing, or a sample if you have one. Otherwise send the bore, outside diameter, width, seal type, clearance, grease, load, speed, and the quantity.
Send the bearing number or the bore, outside diameter, width, seal, and ring material, plus a drawing or sample.
Our engineers review your wheel bearing request or drawing and send you a specific quote within 24 hours.
Standard lead time for wheel bearings is 30 days. Custom designs are sampled before the full production run.
We ship wheel bearings by sea, air, or express courier. A tracking number follows once the order ships.
We support small-batch and prototype runs with no hard minimum order quantity. A first prototype run is typically around 100 pieces.
If you already have drawings, email [email protected] directly and we will quote from them.
