Jam Nuts — 304, 316L & 17-4PH Stainless
Half-height jam nuts are designed specifically for rod end shank applications, not repurposed commercial hex nuts. Standard hardware-store jam nuts can provide reduced thread flank engagement on precision rod end threads, which increases the risk of loosening under cyclic vibration.
Profab jam nuts are thread-rolled to match rod end thread geometry more closely, increasing thread flank contact area to improve vibration resistance without relying on nylon inserts.
Nylon-insert lock nuts can lose effectiveness at elevated temperatures, making all-metal jam nuts more suitable for high-temperature and high-vibration environments.
For 316L-to-316L marine assemblies, molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) dry-film lubricant is applied to reduce galling during installation. Electropolished thread finish is also available to reduce surface roughness and improve assembly smoothness compared to standard machined threads.

Stainless Steel Bungs — Weld-In Threaded Inserts for Tube Connections
Weld-in threaded inserts convert plain tube ends into threaded mounting points for rod ends, suspension links, and custom fabricated assemblies. The stepped outer diameter is sized to match common tube IDs and provides a positive insertion stop to maintain consistent positioning during welding.
The external weld-prep chamfer is designed for efficient fillet welding and improved weld coverage around the tube end. Internal threads are protected during welding to help reduce weld spatter contamination and maintain thread quality after installation.
Thin-wall tubing requires additional weld control. On tube walls thinner than 0.065″ (1.65 mm), weld heat and penetration can distort the threaded bore and affect rod end fitment during assembly.
For thin-wall applications, Profab offers matching tube adapter sleeves that reinforce the tube end and distribute weld heat over a larger area. This helps maintain thread bore roundness, reduces distortion, and improves thread alignment after welding.

Uniball Weld Cups For Spherical Bearing Inserts
CNC-machined weld-in cups are designed for fixed-position spherical bearing installations where threaded rod end adjustment is not required. They provide a compact and rigid mounting solution for suspension links, control arms, and custom fabricated assemblies.
Each weld-in cup is machined for a light press fit with industry-standard spherical bearing inserts and includes an internal snap ring groove for positive bearing retention.
The weld-prep chamfer is designed to reduce heat transfer into the bearing seat during finish welding. Controlling weld heat is critical because excessive heat can distort the bearing bore and affect insert fitment.
For best welding results, install a snug-fitting copper or aluminum heat sink in the bore during welding. This helps maintain bore roundness and minimizes distortion of the spherical bearing seat. A distorted bore can increase bearing preload, interfere with smooth articulation, or cause insert binding after installation.

Linkage Adjusters & Turnbuckle Hex Bars
Turnbuckle-style linkage adjusters are machined from solid 316L or 17-4PH hex bar, not fabricated from separate nuts welded to a tube. This one-piece design eliminates the welds found in welded-nut adjusters, which are often the most corrosion-sensitive points in the assembly. In marine and clean-in-place (CIP) environments, weld heat-affected zones can become vulnerable to pitting and long-term corrosion while the rest of the adjuster still appears sound.
A solid-bar turnbuckle adjuster removes that weak point entirely. The body is bored and tapped from both ends for a clean, one-piece construction with no weld seams.
Thread depth is controlled so both rod end shanks reach the intended engagement point at the midpoint of adjustment, while still maintaining full thread engagement in both directions of travel. The hex body size is selected as a design guideline to be at least 1.5 times the rod end shank diameter. If the adjuster body is too close in diameter to the shank, the body can become the compression weak point and reduce buckling resistance.

High Misalignment Spacers — Ground Faces, Sold in Pairs
Precision-ground misalignment spacers reduce the effective mounting bolt bore while increasing the maximum angular travel of the rod end. One commonly overlooked feature is the ID edge break. A sharp internal edge can act like a cutting surface against the ball. In stainless-on-stainless assemblies, this greatly increases the risk of early scoring and galling.
Profab grinds every spacer face flat and applies a 0.2 mm radiused break to the ID edge. This allows the ball to articulate smoothly against the spacer instead of contacting a sharp corner.
These spacers serve two functions. First, they adapt a rod end with a larger ball bore to a smaller mounting bolt. Second, they increase angular clearance by spacing the bolt head and mounting surface further away from the rod end body.
Using more than one spacer per side is not recommended. Excessive spacer stack height increases bolt bending load and may exceed the ball retention strength of the rod end housing.
