Which Pin and Retainer Fit a DIN 71752 Clevis?

Standards and Sizing

A DIN 71752 stainless steel clevis takes a pin with the same nominal diameter as its inside width, so a 10x20 takes a 10 mm pin. The pin is held by a snap-in spring pin or by a grooved pin with a circlip. Choose the retainer by how often the joint is opened, then match the pin grade to the clevis.

Match the Pin Diameter to the Clevis

The first number in a DIN 71752 size is the inside width and the nominal pin diameter. Snap-in pins are listed by both numbers of the size, and the second sets the pin length, so a 10x20 and a 10x40 use different pins. A pin needs enough length to pass through both ears and the mating eye and still carry its retainer.

Grooved pin with KL or SL clipA KL or SL clip can be used in place of the E-clipSpecify the clip type with the pin

A snap-in pin datasheet describes a steel pin with a tempered spring-steel clip.

A grooved pin range shows the E-clip, KL clip and SL clip options, in zinc-plated steel and in stainless steel 1.4305.

Keep the Pin Grade Matched to the Clevis

Catalogue snap-in pins are typically zinc-plated steel. On a stainless clevis that pin tends to be the first part to corrode in a washdown or salt-spray joint. The zinc coating wears at the pin surface, and the zinc corrodes in its place. Stainless pins are listed as grooved pins with a clip, and the grade should be stated when you order.

What to Specify When You Order

  • The clevis size, for example 10x20, which sets the pin diameter and length
  • The retainer: snap-in pin, or grooved pin with E-clip, KL or SL clip
  • Pin and clip grade, matched to the clevis
  • Whether the pin ships with the clevis or separately

Conclusion

Take the pin diameter from the clevis size, choose a snap-in pin where the joint is opened often or a grooved pin with a clip, and match pin and clip grade to the clevis.
